What is biofuel and biodiesel - RAC guide

Biofuels are produced from renewable organic materials. There are 3 main types of Biofuels used in cars: bioethanol, biodiesel & HVO. Bioethanol is an alcohol made from corn and sugarcane, whereas biodiesel is made using vegetable oils and animal fats. HVO is the latest generation of biofuels and is also made from vegetable oils & animal fats.

All three offer alternatives to non-renewable crude-oil derived fuels like petrol and diesel and typically produce up to 90% less harmful emissions than fossil based fuel.
